Hier mein kleines DEiNFORMER® -Erlebnis von gestern!

Dez 2024

I cleaned my turntable and then had the idea to clean the bearing shaft and lubricate it with fresh oil. So far, so good—no problem, and it’s done.

Then I placed one of my most prized records on the turntable (https://www.discogs.com/Bill-Evans-Trio-Featuring-Scott-La-Faro-Sunday-At-The-Village-Vanguard/release/10440728), gave it a little spin, and started the motor. I must not have put the drive belt on correctly. It jumped off and ended up partially under the platter.

Here’s the thing: in the process, the belt touched the axle in the center and got some of the bearing oil on it. I picked up the belt and, foolishly, just laid it on the vinyl. When I picked it up again, I saw the mess. The belt had left oil marks on the vinyl—quite a few of them, and they were heavily coated with oil.

I turned on the record cleaning machine and first tried using an alcohol-based solution. No success—the oil stains even turned into an oil film! I tried three different solutions to remove the residue. To no avail.

Suddenly, I remembered the DEiNFORMER® and put it to use. It’s hard to believe, but after two thorough passes, not a single trace remained—even when held up to bright light. That “little liquid” actually managed to loosen and remove the smeared bearing oil from the vinyl! And listening to the records afterward was, as always, a real pleasure!
